Carpet Tile Installation in Tomball
Carpet tile gives you a soft floor that forgives spills, because a stained square lifts out and a spare goes in. We measure your rooms, plan the layout and pattern, and put the full scope and every pricing factor in writing before any old flooring comes up.
A Soft Floor Built From Pieces You Can Replace
Carpet tile is carpet made in modular squares or planks, usually with a firm backing that holds the tile flat and keeps edges tight. Instead of one broad roll stretched over pad and tack strip, each piece sits on its own and is held with a release adhesive. If a juice spill or a pet accident ruins one area, you replace that square and the rest of the room stays put.
It is a strong choice for game rooms, home offices, playrooms, media rooms and upstairs bonus spaces, where traffic is heavy and messes are likely. Many homes around Tomball sit on concrete slabs, and carpet tile goes down well over a sound, dry slab. If you want the deeper cushion of a traditional roll, our carpet installation page covers that option.
Before we start, you get a written quote that lists the tile, the adhesive, the prep and the trim work line by line. What is on that page is the job.
What Our Carpet Tile Work Includes
- Measuring and layout planning
- We measure each room and plan where the first tile lands so cuts at the walls are even and no thin slivers end up in a doorway. You see the layout before we begin.
- Pattern choice
- Tiles can be laid all one direction, quarter-turned, in a brick-style ashlar offset or in a herringbone with plank formats. Each pattern changes the look and the amount of waste, and we explain both.
- Removal of the old floor
- We pull up old carpet, pad and tack strip, or lift existing resilient flooring, and haul the material away. Old glue gets scraped so the new adhesive bonds properly.
- Subfloor preparation
- High spots are ground down and low spots filled. On slabs we check for moisture, since damp concrete can break down adhesive over time.
- Transitions and edges
- Where carpet tile meets tile, hardwood or vinyl, we fit the right reducer or transition strip. We trim doors that would drag on the new surface.
- Spare tiles from the same lot
- We leave you a few extra tiles from the same dye lot, stored flat, so a future replacement matches.
Signs Carpet Tile May Suit Your Room
One bad spot ruins the whole room
A wall-to-wall carpet with a permanent stain near the couch or under a desk means replacing everything. With carpet tile, that spot becomes a single square.
Rolling chairs have flattened the carpet
Office chairs crush plush pile and pull at seams. Low-profile carpet tile with a firm backing stands up to casters far better.
Kids or pets use the room hard
Playrooms and pet areas collect spills. Being able to lift a square, rinse it and set it back is a practical relief.
You want soft, but not fussy
Some rooms feel cold with hard flooring but don't need thick carpet. Carpet tile sits in between, warm underfoot with a neat, finished edge.
Old carpet is worn through at the traffic paths
When the walkway from the door to the TV has gone matted and gray, the pad underneath is often spent too. That is a good time to rethink the floor.
What Shapes the Cost of Carpet Tile
Carpet tile pricing depends on more than square footage. We explain each factor in your written quote so you can see where the money goes and adjust if you like. No line appears later that was not discussed first.
The tile itself
Commercial-grade loop tiles, cushion-backed residential tiles and plank formats vary in price. Backing type and pile density matter more than color.
Pattern and waste
A monolithic layout uses tiles efficiently. Herringbone and quarter-turn patterns can need more cuts and extra material.
What comes up first
Lifting old carpet and pad is quick. Glued-down flooring or heavy adhesive residue takes longer to remove and scrape.
Subfloor condition
A flat, dry slab needs little work. Cracks, dips or moisture issues call for patching, leveling or a moisture barrier.
Room layout and trim
Many closets, angled walls and doorways add cutting time, and each transition to another floor needs its own strip.
How a Carpet Tile Job Runs
- 1
Phone conversation and visit
We talk through the rooms, how they are used and what you have in mind. Then we visit to measure and look at the existing floor.
- 2
Written scope and pricing
You receive a quote listing tile, adhesive, removal, prep, transitions and door trimming as separate lines. If something under the old floor could change the price, we name it in writing up front, along with how we would handle it.
- 3
Removal and prep day
We protect nearby floors and walls, take out the old flooring and prepare the subfloor. If we find something the written scope did not anticipate, we show you and agree on it before going further.
- 4
Installation
We snap layout lines, spread release adhesive and set tiles following the arrow direction for your chosen pattern. Edges get cut snug to walls and transitions go in.
- 5
Cleanup and walkthrough
We vacuum, remove debris and walk the room with you. You get your spare tiles and simple care notes before we leave.

Carpet Tile Questions
Can carpet tile go over my existing carpet?
No. Carpet tile needs a firm, flat surface to stay in place, and a layer of old carpet and pad underneath would let it shift and curl. We remove the old carpet first, and that removal is listed in your quote.
How do I replace a damaged tile later?
Because we use a release adhesive, a single tile can be lifted with a putty knife. Set one of your spare tiles in the same direction and press it down. If you would rather we handle it, give us a call.
Does carpet tile feel as soft as regular carpet?
It feels firmer than a thick roll carpet over plush pad. Cushion-backed tiles close much of that gap. We can bring samples so you can compare in your home.
Will the seams show?
With a good layout and tiles set to their arrows, seams are hard to spot in most patterns. Quarter-turn and ashlar layouts are designed to look like a checkerboard or offset on purpose, so we show you samples of each.
Can you put carpet tile on stairs?
Stairs need a different approach, since treads and noses take wear differently from a flat floor. Our stair flooring page covers the options, and we can price stairs and rooms together.
What could add to the price after the quote?
Only something we could not see, like hidden damage under the old floor, and we flag that possibility in writing beforehand. If we find it, we show you and agree on the change before doing the work.
