Luxury Vinyl Plank in Tomball

Luxury vinyl plank gives your home the look of wood with a surface that shrugs off spills and muddy shoes. We check your subfloor, choose the right plank and installation method with you, and put the full scope in writing before a single box is opened.

When Luxury Vinyl Plank Is the Right Floor

Luxury vinyl plank, or LVP, is a layered floor: a rigid or flexible core, a printed design layer and a clear wear layer on top. It suits kitchens, laundry rooms, hallways and busy family rooms, the places where hardwood worries you and tile feels too cold or too hard underfoot.

Most homes around Tomball sit on concrete slabs, and the Gulf Coast humidity means slab moisture is a real factor. The plank itself handles water well, but the floor only lasts if what is underneath is flat and dry. That is where most of our attention goes.

If you want real wood grain and the option of a different look later, our Hardwood Flooring page may suit you better. If you like vinyl but prefer a stone or square format, take a look at Luxury Vinyl Tile.

What Your Plank Installation Includes

Moisture and flatness check
Before anything is ordered, we take moisture readings on the concrete or plywood and lay a long level over each room to map dips and humps. Uneven spots telegraph through a rigid plank as hollow or clicking boards, so we find them first.
Removal of the old floor
Carpet, pad and tack strips come out, or old vinyl and laminate are lifted. Tile removal is priced as its own line because it takes more time and leaves more to grind and patch.
Subfloor leveling
We fill dips with patching compound and grind down high spots so the floor meets the plank maker's flatness requirement. The area and the method are written out for you ahead of time.
Underlayment where it belongs
Some planks come with an attached pad, others need a separate underlayment or vapor barrier over concrete. We match it to the product so you are not doubling up or skipping a layer the manufacturer requires.
Trim, transitions and door clearance
We undercut door jambs so the plank slides beneath them, leave the expansion gap at the walls, and finish with quarter round or reinstalled baseboard. Transitions to tile, carpet or an exterior door threshold are listed piece by piece.
Cleanup at the end of each day
Offcuts, packaging and old flooring leave with us. We vacuum the new floor and walk it with you before we call the job finished.

Signs It Is Time for New Plank Flooring

  • Carpet that holds stains and odors

Pets and spills soak into pad and backing. Plank wipes clean and does not trap what lands on it.

  • Laminate swelling at the seams

Older laminate puffs up where water reaches the core, often near the dishwasher or the back door. A water-resistant plank is the usual replacement.

  • Cracked or loose tile

When grout lines are breaking up and tiles sound hollow, plank can go in after the tile is removed and the slab is patched.

  • Floors that change room to room

Three different floors in an open layout chop up the space. One continuous plank ties the living area, kitchen and hall together.

  • Planks that click or bounce

If an existing vinyl floor flexes underfoot, the subfloor beneath it was likely never leveled. We correct the base before laying new boards.

What Moves the Price of Luxury Vinyl Plank

Square footage matters, but it is rarely the whole story. Prep work, the plank you choose and the details at the edges move the final number more than most people expect. Each of these appears as its own line in your written quote, so the total does not change once work starts unless you change the scope.

Plank thickness and wear layer

A thicker wear layer, measured in mils, resists scratches from pets and chairs longer. Rigid cores and attached pads also cost more than thin flexible planks.

What comes out first

Lifting carpet is quick. Removing glued tile or old sheet vinyl takes longer and often leaves adhesive that has to be ground off.

Subfloor condition

A flat, dry slab needs little work. Cracks, dips or high moisture readings add leveling compound, grinding or a vapor barrier.

Layout and trim details

Open rooms go faster than closets, angled walls and lots of doorways. Stairs, new baseboard and multiple transitions add labor and material.

How the Work Runs

  1. 1

    Walkthrough and measurements

We visit your home, measure each room, test for moisture and note anything that affects the job, like a step-down, a fireplace hearth or a sloped laundry floor.

  2. 2

    Your written quote

You receive a written breakdown listing removal, leveling, underlayment, plank, trim and transitions as separate lines. If something is uncertain, such as what sits under old tile, we say so and explain how we would price it.

  3. 3

    Preparing the rooms

On the first day we protect nearby surfaces, move furniture as agreed, pull the old floor and level the subfloor. Large appliances are disconnected and set aside only where the agreed scope calls for it.

  4. 4

    Laying the plank

We plan the layout so end joints stagger naturally and narrow slivers do not land at doorways. Boards are pulled from several boxes to mix the pattern.

  5. 5

    Finish and walkthrough

Trim goes on, transitions are fastened, furniture returns and we clean up. You walk the floor with us and point out anything you want looked at again.

Luxury Vinyl Plank Questions

Is luxury vinyl plank really waterproof?

Most rigid-core planks are waterproof on the surface and will not swell from a spill. Water can still get under the floor at the edges, so a slow leak needs to be fixed quickly. We also check slab moisture, because moisture rising from below can cause mold or adhesive problems even under a waterproof plank.

Can you put plank over my existing tile?

Sometimes. If the tile is flat, firmly stuck down with no hollow spots, and the added height will not catch doors or appliances, some planks can float over it. Often removal is the better choice, and we explain which applies to your home before you decide.

How long does an installation take?

A few connected rooms usually take one to three days, depending on removal and leveling. Your written quote lists the expected schedule so you can plan around it.

Do I need to move my own furniture?

We talk this through at the walkthrough. Whatever we agree on, including who moves heavy pieces and appliances, is written down ahead of time so there is no confusion on the first morning.

Can the same plank run up my stairs?

Many plank lines offer matching stair nosing, so the floor can continue up the steps. Stairs are cut and fitted one tread at a time, and our Stair Flooring page covers that work in more detail.
