Hardwood Flooring in Tomball

We install solid and engineered hardwood with care for the details you notice later: tight seams, clean transitions and boards that stay flat through humid summers. Before anything is ordered, you get a written scope listing materials, prep and trim, so you know exactly what the price covers.

Real Wood, Chosen for How You Live

Hardwood brings warmth and depth that printed surfaces only imitate. It also moves. Wood takes on and gives up moisture with the seasons, so a good installation starts with the right product for your subfloor and the right method for the room.

Most homes around Tomball sit on concrete slabs, which is why we often recommend engineered hardwood. Its layered core holds its shape better over concrete, and it can be glued down or floated. Solid hardwood is a fine choice over a wood subfloor, nailed in place the traditional way.

We explain those options plainly, then put the one you choose in writing: species, width, finish, installation method and every bit of prep. If something changes once old flooring comes up, we show you and agree on it before we continue.

What Your Hardwood Installation Covers

  1. 01

    Moisture testing

We test the slab or subfloor before installation. Concrete that holds too much moisture can cup or loosen wood from below, so we note the readings and the barrier or adhesive they call for.

  2. 02

    Removal and haul-away

We take up existing carpet, tile, laminate or vinyl and remove the debris. Tile over slab takes more time, and your written scope says so up front.

  3. 03

    Leveling and prep

High spots are ground and low spots filled so boards sit flat. Uneven subfloors are the most common reason wood floors squeak or flex.

  4. 04

    Acclimation and layout

Boards rest in your home before installation. We plan the layout so rows run cleanly through doorways and short pieces stay out of sight.

  5. 05

    Trim and transitions

Baseboards or quarter round, thresholds and reducers to tile or carpet are listed by room, so nothing gets added at the end.

  6. 06

    Cleanup

We vacuum, wipe the floor down and walk it with you before we leave.

Signs It Is Time for New Hardwood

  • Carpet that has worn through

Matted traffic lanes, lingering odors or allergy concerns are good reasons to move to a hard surface that cleans easily.

  • Old flooring lifting or cracking

Loose tiles, peeling vinyl or swollen laminate seams usually mean the floor has reached the end of its life.

  • Mismatched rooms

Three different floors in an open plan make the space feel broken up. Continuous hardwood ties rooms together.

  • Getting ready to sell or settle in

Wood floors are a lasting update that suits most styles and photographs well.

  • Damaged boards beyond repair

Hardwood that has buckled from a leak or is deeply gouged across a room often makes more sense to replace than patch.

How a Hardwood Job Runs

  1. 1

    Measure and discuss

We visit your home, measure each room, check the subfloor and talk through species, plank width and finish. You see samples in your own light.

  2. 2

    Written scope and price

You receive a written quote listing materials, removal, prep, trim and transitions. We point out anything uncertain, such as subfloor condition under old tile.

  3. 3

    Delivery and acclimation

The wood arrives ahead of installation and settles to your home's conditions while we confirm the schedule.

  4. 4

    Installation days

We protect adjacent areas, remove the old floor, prep and install. Most rooms stay usable at the end of each day, and we tell you which ones to avoid.

  5. 5

    Final walk-through

We review the floor together, explain care for the finish and leave the space clean.

What Moves the Price of Hardwood

Hardwood pricing comes down to the wood itself and the work beneath it. We list each item separately in your written quote so you can see where the money goes and adjust choices before you commit.

Species and construction
White oak, hickory and exotic species differ in cost, and solid boards price differently than engineered. Wider planks and thicker wear layers add to material cost.
Subfloor condition
A slab that needs grinding, patching or a moisture barrier adds labor and materials. We measure this before pricing the job, not after.
Removal
Pulling up carpet is quick. Removing tile or glued-down flooring from concrete takes much longer.
Room layout
Closets, angled walls, curved hearths and many doorways mean more cuts and more trim.
Stairs and transitions
Treads, nosings and reducers are priced individually. Stairs are covered on our stair flooring page.

Hardwood Flooring Questions

Can hardwood go over a concrete slab?

Yes. Engineered hardwood is usually the better choice on slab because its core resists movement. We test the concrete for moisture first and choose a glue-down or floating method based on the readings.

How long does the wood need to acclimate?

No single number of days fits every floor. Engineered boards often settle faster than solid ones, and a house with the air conditioning running steadily brings wood into balance sooner than one that sits closed up. We follow the maker's instructions, take moisture readings of the boards and the subfloor, and begin once both fall within range.

Will the price change once you start?

Your written quote covers everything we can see and test beforehand. If removing old flooring reveals damage nobody could have known about, we stop, show you, and agree in writing before doing any extra work.

Should wood flooring go in the kitchen?

Plenty of families choose it, and it holds up well when spills are wiped soon and a mat sits in front of the sink and dishwasher. Standing water is what harms wood, not everyday cooking. If you would rather not think about water at all, luxury vinyl plank gives a similar wood look and shrugs off spills.

Do I need to move my furniture?

We talk this through during the visit and write down who handles which pieces, so there is no confusion on the first morning. Either way, we plan the order of rooms so your home stays as livable as possible during the work.
